Generally, small-sized Swiss-type lathes are mostly used for light cutting. When rough machining and milling are required, there is no need to modify or change the machine. Low-speed tool holders can be used to achieve product milling.
To improve efficiency, one usually needs to increase the cutting feed rate or enlarge the cutting depth. However, during rough machining, high precision is not required. Insufficient power in the lathe machine, fast cutting speeds, large centrifugal forces, and reactive forces can easily cause tool damage.
Therefore, when performing rough machining, it is preferable to select a relatively lower cutting speed. Using a speed-reducing tool holder in this case will increase torque due to the slower feed rate, which matches the cutting speed. The surface roughness Ra for rough cutting is 8.0a or higher.
When you need to perform rough machining on workpieces, it allows you to save more processing time.
